At War with Anxiety

Bush

Do you have a problem you need to face? Have you thought about it is a battle?

“smothered in emotions not quite real,
it is hard to write about how I feel.

the laws of thought protect from the I,
the torture and pain, my quest for why.

what is the source, the devil’s delight
my source of discomfort, my life long blight.

emotions run wild and then sink to none,
many a time before the day is done.

paper in hand, likewise quill,
write while you can, set forth your will.

a poem written, a little rhyme
sooth my nerves, bide my time.

start with the heart, pounding inside,
anxiety flows, a rushing tide.

shivers from nerves draw spasms of pain,
impulse to twitch, never to gain.

nausea and fear down the shoulders climb
leaving warmth and comfort far behind
doubled over a torturous belt
cannot describe how it felt.

find a corner, nestle inside
run from the world, seek where to hide.

look for comfort, no where to find
only others equally distressed know my mind.

cannot go on, much terror felt
when will it end this hand I’ve been dealt?

don’t give up now, or never quit
solve the problem through strength and wit.

write and scribble make fun of the curse
let anxiety ride in the hearse.

feel better now, can smile with refrain
watch out, I’m back to battle again!”
